Marie E. Gustafson passed away on May 12th, 2017 at the age of 76. She was born on June 16, 1940 in The Dalles, Oregon, the daughter of Oscar Gustafson and Ardis Kelly Gustafson.

She attended St. Mary’s Academy School in The Dalles through her elementary and first two years of high school and completed her high school education at The Dalles High School. Marie continued her education at Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Eugene. Following her graduation she secured her first job at St.Vincent Hospital which was then located at NW Westover...

Marie E. Gustafson passed away on May 12th, 2017 at the age of 76. She was born on June 16, 1940 in The Dalles, Oregon, the daughter of Oscar Gustafson and Ardis Kelly Gustafson.

She attended St. Mary’s Academy School in The Dalles through her elementary and first two years of high school and completed her high school education at The Dalles High School. Marie continued her education at Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Eugene. Following her graduation she secured her first job at St.Vincent Hospital which was then located at NW Westover in North Portland. Her nursing career at St Vincent Hospital spanned 40 years. A career that began as a floor nurse in pediatrics and concluded as assistant to Dr. Peter Fuchs as they introduced the first Epidemiology Program on the west coast. InfectionControl/Epidemiology was initiated for the purpose of looking at the infection rate in the hospital and changing policies/procedures to reduce/eliminateinfections in the hospital.

After her retirement Marie became a full time volunteer of Center for Peace West, a Medjugorje information center for the promotion and pilgrimages to the apparition site in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Marie has made over 30 trips toMedjugorje, many as a leader of pilgrimages taking groups to the apparition site. Marie has also been an active member and volunteer at St. Cecilia’s Church.

Marie is survived by her siblings, Ed (Barbara), Alice Anne, Steve, and Bill (Kathy); 8 nieces and nephews, Scott, Leanne, Chris, Stephanie (Nate), Adam (Natalie), Laura (Jeff), Josh (Brandi), and Emily; and three great-nieces, Maddy, Kathryn, and Rebecca. Her love for her faith and her family was the heart and soul of her life.

Our world is a sadder place without her, yet richer because of her.
